Everyday Active Listening

This workshop consists of four learning sessions covering the fundamentals: how to prepare your mindset, cultivate presence, process information, and respond to others with confidence. For the best experience, work through the sections in numerical order (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc.). I reference earlier material as we go, so staying in order ensures you don't miss important context!

Please note: This is a personal development course and is not an accredited program. However, you’ll receive a completion email at the end for your personal records. The workshop is entirely self-paced.

What You Will Walk Away With

  • Understand your own listening habits and biases so you can focus on the speaker.

  • Strengthen awareness of your body language to show you are present and listening.

  • Listen with empathy, focus on understanding the speaker, and being present in the moment.

Structure

  • Learning Session 1: Foundations

  • What to Expect: This session serves as your introduction to the workshop, providing a warm welcome and an overview of the program's setup and goals. The learning session includes the core principles of active listening through empathy, responsiveness, and self-awareness to build trust and improve your everyday connections.

  • Learning Session 2: Perspective

  • What to Expect: In this session, we look at active listening as a foundational state of being, notice how our physical surroundings impact our focus, and identify the default habits we fall back on when listening to others.

  • Learning Session 3: Action

  • What to Expect: It also explores how body language reveals whether your presence is divided or undivided. It also includes a video exercise and a helpful list of body postures for your familiarity.

  • Learning Session 4: Integration

  • What to Expect:  You will learn how to balance your internal presence with external feedback by creating a quiet space for others, setting aside the urge to fix them, and offering a simple, respectful acknowledgment before smoothly moving on in the conversation.

  • Conclusion

  • What to Expect: In this final section, we’ll wrap up the workshop with a quick recap of the key takeaways. From there, you’ll complete the final quiz and a brief workshop survey. Once your quiz is finished, you will receive a confirmation email and certificate acknowledging your completion!
